This winter (2008) I took a
silversmithing class, and learned how to form metal with a
hammers. It was very liberating for me as an artist as it
gives me three-dimensional choices. I love the process of
manipulating the metal in this way. The faceted surface caused
by planishing provides an excellent counterpoint to the smooth
and colourful champlevé embellishments.
This piece was made for an
upcoming exhibition called "Grave
Goods" that is being sponsored by my artist
collective An Droichead/The Bridge
I was thinking of the Iron age
cauldrons that were made before soldering was understood.
Soldering is always problematic in conjunction with enamel as
the solder and the enamel melt at the same temperature.

Materials:
Brass bowl (sunk) and riveted champleve copper enamel
escutcheons and base
Colour: Soyer blue blend, Amber blend and turquoise/green
blend.
