I have become
more and more interested in the earlier abstract forms.
Abstraction is very typical of the aesthetic of most tribal
people around the world - and I think it gives us a window
into primitive thought. In this piece - based on a bronze
openwork plaque from approximately 300BC I have used colours
to suggest elemental features (fire in the centre with orange
red and water on the periphery with blue and teardrop
shaped foil inlays). However I also feel that it contains
emotional content of a fiery and sorrowful spirit. This piece
is designed as a necklace, but can also be made into a brooch.
"When in perplexity, the
beguiling simplicity of the circle is like a raft to a
drowning man."
J.C. Polkinghorne, "The Quantum World"
All necklaces can also be
ordered as brooches
