While I started with Champlevé, I have been slowly
expanding the enamelling techniques that I work with.
Enamel is a remarkably versatile medium, and there are
so many different ways that you can approach it.
Cloisonné is a
traditional technique, and one that most enamellists
are familiar with it - but I came to it late, having
been engrossed with champlevé for so long. It has a
much more subtle and painterly feel than champlevé -
which is bold and direct, so demand different design
sensibility
I came to grisaille
totally by accident when I ran out of a particularly
opaque enamel paint.
It was no
longer available - but the slightly transparent white
that I replaced it with immediately recommended itself
to be used for more delicately shaded projects.
