Music was my first
introduction into Irish culture. In 1984 I first went
to Ireland to study at the famous Willie Clancy school
- but during my visit I also visited various museums
and first saw the beautiful enamels created over 2000
years ago that began my interest in enamelling.
My first love is the
traditional singing of Ireland, and I have become
more and more interested in the older unaccompanied styles.
Unaccompanied singing
places the focus not on the singer, but on the song. A
singer's greatest asset is not their voice - but their
repertoire. I now have over 100 songs from Irish,
Irish-American, Irish-Canadian, Breton and Appalachian
collections, and I continue to search out unique and
hidden gems.
