Enamel,
very simply, is glass that
is fused on to
metal at very high temperatures. When I
first saw enamelwork that was done over 1000 years ago, my two passions
of
history and art came together.

I
do extensive research in archaeology,
anthropology and philosophy to
inspire
and inform the work. I am constantly
renewed by the daily experience, in front
of
the kiln, of transformation by fire.

I work with a grammar of
ornament that comes from the past,
especially the 'barbarian' cultures of
ancient Europe,
but my goal is to speak
to the present.
It is my belief that art,
like music,
can build cultural community
rather than foster elitism. I hope you

here that connect
you with your past present and future,
and with those around you.
