| COMMUNITY
ACTIVISM
In North America in
general, but Canada in particular there is a severe
lack of appreciation for craftsmanship. It is my
belief that this comes from a lack of education.
Instead of addressing this lack, artists have often
obscured themselves behind barriers of elitism to
protect their own perceptions of quality.
All of the work I do organising exhibitions and
organisations that I work with must forward the goal
of breaking down those barriers.
Traditionally artists
have been at the centre of their communities,
creating culture by investing meaning in everyday
objects and events.
I also believe that we
have a responsibility as citizens to give something
back to the community that sustains us.
