The symbolism of the piping pig is obscure - but the bagpipe was said to be invented when it's originator saw someone walking by with an asthmatic pig under his arm.

Chaucer's miller is depicted riding a pig and playing the bagpipe - and several churches have 'pig with bagpipe' gargoyles
