"...when Etain sat down on the
chair in the middle of the house, Fuamnach struck
her with a rod of scarlet quicken tree, and she
turned into a pool of water ...The heat of the
fire and the air and the seething of the ground
aided the water so that it... turned into a worm,
and after that the worm became a purple fly... as
big as a man's head the comeliest in the land.
Sweeter than pipes and harps and horns was the
sound of her voice and the hum of her wings. Her
eyes would shine like precious stones in the
dark. The fragrance and the bloom of her would
turn away hunger and thirst from anyone around
whom she would go...To listen to her and gaze
upon her would nourish hosts in gatherings and
assemblies in camps. ..."
