BROOCHES - Two Spiral
This piece is based on a 5th century BC bronze brooch from Cisalpine Gaul (Northern Italy) which was one of the centers of Celtic culture at this time. I have inlaid cloisonné wires in a style called 'Waldalgesheim' or vegetal which is slightly later and more fluid.

The double spiral is probably a sun/moon symbol, but the vegetal designs are more elusive. Some say they are abstractions of Greek vegetal patterns, and others see them as representative of the restless wandering spirit of the Celts.

The shape is most often seen as that of a crab
