This
series is based on actual Celtic enamel work from
around 7th c AD. They are called 'hand pins' by
archaeologists because of their superficial
resemblance to a closed fist, not because of any
implied meaning.
The enamelled parts were originally much smaller,
but
the pin was much bigger - making it a useful closure for heavy woollen
cloaks. Each one was unique - so probably a symbol of rank or family.
